Genre Research Case Study #2

The opening sequence began by showing a doll house in reference to the family's house. As the image grew larger and the camera was brought closer to the dollhouse you can realize the scene was shown and patreyed to be one of the main characters room, Peter. Peter's father walked in, attempting to wake him up, and placed a suit on the bed. The father then realizes Peter's sister Charlie didn't sleep in her room last night and found her in a tree house outside. He further told her to get dressed and ready. The scene changes setting to a funeral of Peter and Charlie's grandmother. Annie was up on the stage talking about who her mother was before she passed. The scene changes to Charlie making a clicking noise with her mouth and drawing a picture as her mother is talking at the funeral portraying her to look uninterested in what's going on. The father closes her drawing book because it was an inappropriate time to be drawing. The scene automatically changes to Charlie watching her grandma as she's eating a chocolate bar and they leave. The main message of the opening showed how uncomfortable and isolated the family was from each other, creating a clear aura of hatred of some sort between each other, especially after the grandmother died. Most people in the opening sequence showed lack of remorse.
